Frozen City River
04:49
|
|||
In the morning I will meet you
By the frozen city river
While our breath comes short and ragged
From between our teeth and steaming
And we'll watch the buses leave
From the darkened depot, glowing
And then opening their doors to us,
Gently humming while we're boarding.
Then by following the route map
We will reach our destination,
That will welcome us with promises
Of warmth and celebration.
But somehow there's something nagging
Like a thought that's been forgotten,
Or a single drop of water
In a winter rain that's teeming.
In the evening I will leave you
In my car and drive through darkness
With the shadow of the streetlights
Rushing by over my windscreen.
And I'll wonder where the day's gone
And I'll wonder for tomorrow,
As it surely must be static
As the dead leaves in my driveway.
In the morning I will meet you
By the frozen city river
And we'll watch those buses glowing
As they leave to do it over
And the thought that's somehow nagging
Will be by then forgotten,
Like the welcome destination,
Never knowing what we're doing.

Canada Water
03:17

Fly into a winter storm
Like a sparrow
Like a lamb goes
To the slaughter
Fairy lights guide you home
Like an arrow
Where the tube goes
To Canada Water
There is a long
Winter up ahead
Storms will come
Trees will bend
I'm reconciled
But I'm just not ready
For the end
Cutting down a Christmas tree
With a hatchet
And a grin on my face
Like a killer
Going on a shopping spree
To match it
I'm a modern man
A devoted consumer
There is a long
Winter up ahead
Storms will come
Trees will bend
I'm reconciled
But I'm just not ready
For the end

Freeze

I keep giving you gifts
You don't want
I keep sending you cards
You throw out
Keep smiling even when
You lock me out
Of every room
The whole year long
You're so cold
I'm starting to feel
So old
But I'll always be 'round for you
Even when I've started to
Freeze
The whole year long
You're so cold
I'm starting to feel
So old
But I'll always be 'round for you
Even when I've started to
Freeze

Another Year
02:47
|

That's Christmas for another year
It's time to blow out the lights
Put away the tinsel now
And face the winter nights
But Spring is round the corner
Let's keep it in sight
And walk with the darkness
'til it's bright
I know
That time can go slow
And it always rains
Around here
But here's another year
To take by the reigns
And guide it where you must go
That's Christmas for another year
You can thank your lucky stars
Heave a sigh of relief or regret
As you put away the cards
But Spring is round the corner
And Summer's not too far
So we must make peace
With the present
Wherever we are
